@lumos-my-life happy birthday, love! I hope you like it.
-Niall's point of view-
"I'm so glad you could visit," Georgia, one of my best childhood friends, admitted as we walked around town. Man, I missed this place. I hadn't been home in almost a year, and everything had changed. Not Georgie though, she's still as wonderful as I remembered.
"Well I couldn't miss your nineteenth birthday!" I told her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders in a one-armed hug. Especially since I missed her eighteenth, I thought to myself. I had been with the rest of the boys at that time and couldn't visit. She smiled up at me, her blonde hair blowing in the wind. After slowing down our pace, I tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and looked into her blue-grey eyes. Just do it, I told myself. Just kiss her, like you're always wanted. Georgie suddenly turned her head and waved to someone behind me. I moved away from her, embarrassed that she had rejected me.
"Niall, I want you to meet Brian, my boyfriend," she announced. Boyfriend? Since when does Georgia have a boyfriend? Brian staggered toward us. He planted a kiss on Georgie's lips, making me cringe. I recognized him... he lived near me, but I had never talked to him.
"You must be George's friend," he stated, unimpressed.
"Yeah, I'm Niall," I introduced myself, sticking my hand out for him to shake. Brian ignored it, giving me a funny look.
"I feel like I've seen you before," he told me. I almost rolled my eyes at his ignorance. I could already tell this Brian wasn't the smartest boy Georgia could've picked to go out with.
"Well, I grew up here. And I'm in One Direction, the band off The X Factor," I replied coolly.
"One Direction? You're part of that awful boyband? That explains a lot," Brian scoffed. I was getting angrier by the moment and Georgie began to catch on.
"Hey, babe? I'll join you later, yeah? I want to talk with Niall."
"Oh, wait. Are we on for tonight?" Tonight? But I was planning on taking her out tonight for her birthday.
"Definitely, I can't wait!" Georgie exclaimed. Was she really picking this guy over me? Brian kissed her again and sauntered away. "I'm sorry about him, he's a little crazy sometimes-"
I interrupted her, not caring about her sorry excuse for a boyfriend. "Um, Georgie, I thought we were gonna hang out tonight, since I'm here and all." She gasped, suddenly remembering that I would only be here for a short time.
"Aw, sorry Niall. I guess we'll just have to wait until tomorrow. Is that okay?" Her pleading eyes had always been impossible to resist.
"Yeah, of course, I'll just catch up with the guys tonight," I assured her. She smiled that sweet smile and leaned in for a hug.
"I'll see you tomorrow, Niall!" She promised, pulling away from me and walking off with Brian. I trudged over to the nearest bar, knowing that's where my old friends would be.
"Is that Niall Horan?!" A voice I recognized called out to me. I smiled, walking up to the lads.
"Hey Sean, how are you?" I greeted him. He gave me a hug, along with the rest of the guys.
"Everything's great here, how's it going with you?" he asked me. I took a seat and asked the bartender for a beer.
"Touring is incredible, you wouldn't believe the fans that come out to see us," I answered. Sean and the rest of the guys stared me down.
"Any... girlfriends? One night stands?" I choked on my beer.
"N-no... Whenever we met girls, I couldn't stop thinking about Georgia," I confessed. Sean kept his head down. "I asked you to keep an eye on her while I was gone. I was going to ask her out today," I revealed bitterly.
"Sorry mate, I only found out about her boyfriend a month ago." I winced when he said the word 'boyfriend.' Sean tried to make it up to me by saying, "Although, they've been kind of on the outs lately. He's not a very nice guy." I nodded knowingly.
"Someone get me another beer," I ordered. Five empty bottles later, Sean dared me to sing karaoke. I accepted, being buzzed and having nothing better to do. I walked onto the small stage, having decided on a song that the boys and I were practicing for our upcoming tour. It was perfect for how I was feeling about Georgie right now.
"Her name is-"
Georgie, my mind said. Luckily, I knew the song by heart, so I still sang the right words. Just focus on the song, I thought.
"Noelle. I have a dream about her. She rings my bell; I've got gym class in half an hour. Oh how she rocks, in Keds and tube socks-"
At that moment, Georgie walked into the bar, all alone. She looked beautiful; it took a lot of will power to stay on stage and continue with the song.
"-But she doesn't know who I am, and she doesn't give a damn about me."
Georgie saw me singing and smiled, recognizing the song. I wish she knew I was singing it about her.
"Cause I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby. Yeah, I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby. Listen to Iron Maiden maybe with me," I sang, looking into her eyes the entire time.
"Her boyfriend's a dick; he brings a gun to school and he'd simply kick my ass if he knew the truth. He lives on my block, and drives an IROC. But he doesn't know who I am, and he doesn't give a damn about me." I looked over at Sean, who was smiling wide.
"Cause I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby. I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby. Listen to Iron Maiden maybe with me. Oooooh."
I looked around the bar for Georgie, but she was nowhere to be found. Did she figure it out? She must've, and she doesn't like me back.
"Oh yeah, dirtbag. No, she doesn't know what she's missing. Oh yeah, dirtbag. No, she doesn't know what she's missing."
The end of the song was near. It's my favorite part of the song, because the guy finally gets his girl. But my girl was still missing.
"Man I feel like mold, it's prom night and I am lonely. Lo and behold, she's walking over towards me. This must be fake, my lip starts to shake. How does she know who I am? And why does she give a damn about me?"
Just then, I heard a girl's voice singing behind me.
"I've got two tickets to Iron Maiden, baby. Come with me Friday, don't say 'maybe.' I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby, like you. Oooooh."
Georgie wrapped her arm around me while she sang. I almost dropped my microphone. We sang the final lines together.
"Oh yeah, dirtbag. No, she doesn't know what she's missing. Oh yeah, dirtbag. No, she doesn't know what she's missing, yeah."
I beamed at Georgie as the song ended. She chuckled, embracing me. We walked backstage to cool off a bit before joining our friends. "You were amazing," she said sweetly.
"So were you, I didn't expect you to come up there with me," I admitted. She hugged me again; it felt wonderful to hold her in my arms.
"G-georgia," I stuttered, nervous. She pulled away from the hug, but stayed close to me.
"Yeah, Niall?" She looked into my eyes, making me want her.
"There's something I want to tell you." Georgie nodded, signaling for me to go on. "I've always really liked you, even when we were little kids. But in the past few years, It's been different..." I told her, struggling to find the right words.
She looked concerned. "How so?"
"Um well..." I began.
"Niall, just spit it out!" she told me, giggling.
"Okay, fine. A few years ago I realized that I like you more than just normal friends. I've had this huge crush on you, okay? You're just so beautiful and- oh God." Fully sober now, I remembered my mistake.
"What?" she questioned, disregarding the rest of what I said.
"You have a boyfriend! I've completely messed this up, I don't have a chance-" I stopped talking when I felt her lips on mine. It was lovely.
"Niall, I don't have a boyfriend anymore. He forgot about my birthday, and he was becoming a jerk and..."
"And?" I prompted.
"When I saw you earlier, I remembered all the times we had. And on my date with Brian, I was only thinking about you. I might've even called him Niall once or twice..." We both laughed. "But anyway, it was obvious that I really like you, and I didn't know what to do. So I came to the bar, and you were here. It was perfect."
"You're perfect," I whispered, leaning in. She brought her lips to mine, wrapping her arms around my neck. Kissing her was better than I could've imagined. After a moment, I looked into her eyes. "Georgie, will you be my girlfriend?"
"Of course, Niall," she accepted and I took her in my arms once more. Hand in hand, we walked out to our friends to tell them the news.
"Finally!" Sean yelled when he saw us. I laughed and pulled Georgie close.
